With the series quartet circulating in book stores avidly in the market since 2001, sales have begun to rocket ever since Peter Jackson and Christian Rivers joined hands for the project, for old times’ sake. This year’s New York Comic Con had been a blast as well, since there were actors, cosplayers, and reputed artists from all over the world with their merchandise. Peter Jackson, along with the cast, had taken the New York Comic Con by surprise when he showed 25 minutes of his production, Mortal Engines, to the crowd before him. He and the cast also welcomed questions pertaining to the movie’s release. Since most of the cast has already been disclosed, there are some major characters and plenty of supporting characters such as Leifur Sigurdarson who will be seen in the already famous Mortal Engines Nils Lindstorm Coat on the big screens. Mentioned below are some of the leading yet important supporting characters that you should know of before you head to the cinema this December 18th HERA HILMAR AS HESTER SHAW-AN ANTI TRACTIONIST London Traction City is on wheels, and it is on the verge to engulf every smaller city by rampaging and creating havoc at the same time. Hester Shaw, though born at a time and a place where there weren’t any traction cities, grows up to be an anti-tractionist, and as a rebel who is all set to put an end to the nuisances on wheels. Thaddeus Valentine, her father, attacked her mother when she was just seven years old in an attempt to acquire a weapon called MEDUSA. Her mother and adoptive father, however got killed in the process, but Hester managed to escape after getting attacked by Valentine in the process. Hester Shaw can be seen as a part of the Anti-Traction league who chases bounties with a red scarf around her face. JIHAE AS ANNA FANG Giving the term badass a run for its money, Anna Fang can be seen as one of the major yet leading characters in the quartet series. Jihae Kim, who apart from being a musician, model, and a social activist, started acting when she landed her first role in the Mars mini TV series on Nat Geo. Since then, the Martian we know of today, is all set to show justice to Valentine and bring peace to the community by bringing rampaging traction cities to a halt. ROBERT SHEEHAN AS TOM NATSWORTHY Apart from being an eye-candy, this 30 year old heart throb has decided to claim the genre of science fiction with his role as Tom Natsworthy in the Mortal Engines quartet series. With Peter Jackson and Christian Rivers all set to supervise his tactics, this baddie will be seen as an innocent historian apprentice who idolizes Thaddeus Valentine a legendary icon. However, as soon as he gets pushed into a cliff by Valentine, he joins forces with Hester Shaw and Anna Fang as a part of the Anti-Tractionists in order to save London from the evil forces. Tom’s character evolves emotionally and mentally throughout the movie, allowing him to take tough decisions whilst being struck with sorrow and grief as well HUGO WEAVING AS THADDEUS VALENTINE As dark as this character can be, Thaddeus Valentine planned on killing the Shaw family in order to attain MEDUSA from Hester Shaw’s mother, Pandora. With Hester on to him in the first part of this quartet, this role model for London Traction City will soon be acquiring disguises and hiring people to kill the only threat to his legacy – his daughter. LEIFUR SIGNURDARSON AS NILS LINDSTORM Perhaps the only iconic thing about this character is that Nils Lindstorm gets to wear the Mortal Engines Leifur Sigurdarson Trench Coat with his blonde mane flowing in support. While Nils Lindstorm is supposed to be a minor supporting character, he is actually an aviator who was a major part of the Anti-Traction League. He was also present when Strike, the Stalker, tried to kill Hester Shaw on AirHaven With a month and a half still to the movie’s release, the infamous Mortal Engines Leifur Sigurdarson Leather Coat has already struck e-stores. If this doesn’t make you believe that the movie’s going (probably) a success, then we wonder what is.

This Halloween had been a breeze for some, as usual, while it took its toll on others in many ways. While most of us would prefer dressing up as Mortal Engines’ Anna Fang in a red woolen trench coat and steam punk glasses, many would prefer to go all out to dress up as their favourite superhero from the movies. However, as the famous saying goes, superheroes don’t have to wear capes. In order to pull off the perfect look this Halloween (the party’s still on), all you need is to go as your favourite character from Mortal Engines. Portray your inner rebel in one of the featured trench coats, and top off your look with the accessory required. Mentioned below are 4 looks that we believe are worth cosplaying this Halloween. ANNA FANG’S RED WOOLEN TRENCH COAT Having Jihae Kim to portray Anna Fang in the series quartet was an amazing move. Not only do we get to see diversity on the show, but Anna Fang’s South Korean accent will diversify the majority of the Caucasian cast on the set. Anna Fang’s look seems pretty laid back, but in reality and according to the screenplay Mortal Engines, it is incredibly also badass. Maybe it’s because Jihae Kim is quite talented to pull this look off. However, it could be due to the glasses as well because they have undoubtedly helped to add an air of mystery to Fang’s look. In order to portray Anna Fang this Halloween, you need to endorse a pixie cut and get ahold of a red trench (woolen preferred) for the look. Take ahold of a pair of steam punk glasses, and voila, your inner Anna Fang is all ready to be unleashed HESTER SHAW’S LONG TRENCH COAT London Traction City seems pretty cold to us – in more ways than one. While the entire cast can be seen clad in woolen trench coats, Mortal Engines is all set to make a statement about fashion this fall and winter. While there are plenty of people cosplaying Hester Shaw for Halloween or comic cons, let us tell you what you need to do to pull off the perfect assassin look. With prosthetics and make-up, you can make a scar on your face similar to the one Hester Shaw has in the series. With the aid of a red scarf, and a long trench coat, get your inner Hester Shaw in gear, and pull off the look of one of the greatest assassins feared in the history of sci-fi (we went a bit too far with this analogy). NILS LINDSTORM’S LONG TRENCH COAT We are putting Nils Lindstorm’s coat before that of Tom Natsworthy’s because we think that we ought to hand over some credit to Leifur Sigurdarson for pulling this look off. Also, we think that Natsworthy will be the idealistic choice to keep readers hooked, so there’s that as well. Nils Lindstorm plays quite a minor role in the movie, and can be somehow, considered as a supporting character as well. Get ahold of Nils Lindstorm’s Coat that is not only made up of leather but is also lined by fur at the collar. However, with a blonde wig and a fake beard (or real if you already have one or can grow it), you can pull off Nils Lindstorm’s look to perfection. TOM NATSWORTHY’S BLACK TRENCH COAT If you can pull Tom Natsworthy’s baby face from the movie with the right expressions and gestures, you can pull this look off to a tee. All you need is a black trench coat that is open from the front and has open hem cuffs as well. Go along with Hester Shaw to your Halloween party, since people might need some time warming up to your character. You can always go as a nudist on strike in your ordinary clothes on if you don’t plan on spending for the Halloween, or if you have trouble thinking up a last-minute Halloween costume. Also, Halloween comes only once a year, so make the most of it by actually investing some time in dressing up for the parties in the neighbourhood. |
